BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY CONSULTING: NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT: THE CARLYLE GROUP

The Carlyle Group

The Technology:
The application is written in Java and targeted at the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). The application server is BEA Systems’ WebLogic Server, Version 6.1, running on Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Microsoft’s SQL Server 2000 provides data storage. Business logic is provided by session EJB components, while the object-relational map is implemented using one BMP entity bean and several data access objects that use tuned SQL via JDBC. The application is designed to be scalable via full WebLogic clustering.

J2EE role-based access (RBA) ensures that each deal team can only view data on deals assigned to that team. Fund managers can view data on deals for the entire fund and corporate executives can view data on all deals being structured throughout the company.

Municipal Securities Rule Making Board (MSRB)

The Technology:
CC Pace integrated the web application with the RTRS system, constructing ISO1 5022-compliant messages from the data input, and sending the messages via IBM WebSphere MQ to the RTRS application. CC Pace also built stored procedures to retrieve data from the RTRS’ Oracle database. The RTRS web application is a J2EE application using the JBoss/Tomcat application server, connected to the messaging queue through the IBM WebSphere MQ API. Microsoft Internet Information Server is the web server, with Apache JK used to proxy content from JBoss to the web. CC Pace implemented X.509 client certificates that are managed by the IIS web server, along with Secure Socket Layers, so traffic is encrypted in both directions.
