Like most good trainers, Jannette came to Agile in a round-about kind of way. In high school she learned about programming and her first program at home was using Texas Instruments (TI) Basic. Jannette’s interest in information technology dates back to her first job as a key punch operator. At Allstate Insurance, Jannette learned some basic concepts about mainframe computers. She later received an AA Degree from Everett Community College in Washington State and then found herself doing programming – while being paid as a secretary! She had so much fun working on things like a lead tracking database that she went back to school and graduated in 1993 from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA with a BA in Business and MIS.
Since then her gigs have included Disney Studios Technology Group, Holland America, Microsoft, Puget Sound Energy, Valtech and the City of Seattle. Jannette lived in the UK for 7 years and two of her favorite projects were completed there. The first was a Utility deregulation project joining Welsh water and electric, and the second was a project to develop a new scheduling system for BBC radio.
Jannette’s systems knowledge and her people skills eventually led her to training and coaching. She has worked with teams in Argentina, Vietnam and India and she has helped countless teams and executives understand the benefits of agile development. She is known for her great stories, quick wit and her ability to come up with analogies that make sense. If you are a Product Owner, she will tell you “the buck starts here” and she will help you to develop skills to fulfill the PO role.
Since learning Agile methods, Jannette became a Certified Scrum Master (CSM) in 2010 and has never looked back – adding both Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) and SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) certifications to her name. Jannette can often be found boating and motorcycling around Washington State and beyond.
