From a LinkedIn Message to the Perfect Fit: Kris Tyler’s Journey with CC Pace

Written by Laura Campbell | Apr 30, 2025 1:53:14 PM

Kris Tyler joined CC Pace in early 2024 as a Technical Product Manager on a contract-to-permanent basis - his first time working in consulting. Now a full-time employee of the client, he reflects on what made the experience stand out: strong industry alignment, steady support, and a team that followed through on everything they promised. We caught up with Kris to hear what his experience was really like and the advice he’d give others who are thinking about giving consulting a try.

How did you go from a LinkedIn message to joining CC Pace full-time?

When CC Pace first reached out on LinkedIn, I wasn’t actively job hunting, but I was open to hearing about new opportunities - especially if something interesting came along. Around that same time, my employer had just announced a return-to-office policy, which would’ve meant a two-hour commute. So, when I learned the CC Pace role was fully remote and involved working with an auto lending client, right in my area of expertise, it felt worthy of a conversation.

Initially, CC Pace was just another message in my inbox. But as I started talking to different people in the organization, something clicked. I realized I’d been on calls before with Tim Van Tassel, CC Pace’s president, during a previous project in the credit risk space. That connection, along with CC Pace’s deep understanding of the industry, made the opportunity feel more familiar and compelling. It gave me a reason to seriously consider consulting and this particular client engagement.

What made the difference in your decision to move forward with CC Pace?

Transparency. I was new to consulting and had a lot of questions - how it works, what to expect, and how I’d be supported. CC Pace gave me clear, honest answers. No sugarcoating, no sales pitch - just open conversations about the role and what working with them would actually be like.

Now, a year in - and having transitioned to a full-time role with the client - everything has played out exactly as they said it would. No surprises, no confusion. Looking back, it was their consistency that built my confidence and confirmed I was making the right move.

What was most surprising about working with CC Pace?

For me, it was how seamless everything felt. I wasn’t sure how you balance client work while being an employee of another organization. That seemed like it could be difficult. But it wasn’t at CC Pace. From onboarding to converting to a full-time position with the client, the experience was structured, clear, and well-supported. With CC Pace, you’re set up to focus on what you do best because the right support is already in place.

How did the transition from contractor to full-time employee go?

Honestly, it was really smooth. From the beginning, CC Pace made sure I felt supported with regular check-ins as part of their Client Success Program, quick answers when I had questions, and an account team that stayed ahead of things. CC Pace also acted as a great liaison with the client, which took a lot of pressure off me and helped everything run smoothly. I never felt like I was on my own, and that made a big difference.

Any advice for someone looking to break into auto lending and credit risk?

Definitely. First thing I’d say - go buy a car and really pay attention to every step of the process. Ask questions. How were the numbers calculated? What’s driving the financing decisions? Auto lending isn’t just banking; it’s a high-velocity industry where trends shift overnight. Competition is fierce. The moment a dealership opens its doors, they’re already $50K in the hole, paying interest on their floor plan, servicing, and unsold inventory, just to name a few.

Now, flip your mindset. Instead of being the buyer, think like the lender, the one purchasing the car note from the dealer. The more you help dealers make money, the more business you can capture. It’s all about balance. Success in auto lending means knowing how to drive business while staying within risk parameters.

With all you’ve learned, would you consider consulting again in the future?

Absolutely.  It was a worthwhile experience, and I would give it a try again.

Kris’s experience is a great example of what can happen when the right opportunity meets the right support. For those curious about consulting, his story is a reminder that it’s worth exploring, especially with a team that’s committed to setting you up for success.
